Our Environmental & Community Commitment

At ROC Adventure, our scheduled and bespoke walks are carefully researched and planned with the Welsh countryside at their heart. The landscapes, wildlife and culture of Wales guide everything we do. We are committed to protecting these precious environments and actively promote sustainable practices to support them for future generations.

We believe walking offers nourishment for body, mind and spirit, while also being one of the least carbon-intensive ways to explore. By encouraging travel on foot wherever possible, we naturally minimise the environmental impact of our activities.

Where travel is required, we encourage car sharing and public transport, and we always promote a Leave No Trace approach. Our aim is to balance the footprint of travel with the benefits that responsible, sustainable tourism can bring to rural areas, supporting local businesses and communities wherever we visit.

Supporting the Places We Explore

Our routes intentionally celebrate the authentic side of Wales — favouring quieter spaces and lesser-known paths where possible. This allows for:

  • Low-impact exploration
  • High-quality, meaningful experiences
  • Fresh air, exercise, companionship and connection
  • Learning new skills and building confidence outdoors

We support local communities by recommending independent businesses, accommodation, food providers and places of interest, sharing the positive impact of our presence with the areas we visit.

Learning & Interpretation

Our qualified Mountain Leaders integrate learning into every journey. Through conversation and guidance, we share:

  • Local folklore, traditions and history
  • Geology, geography and ecosystems
  • Flora, fauna and habitat awareness
  • How to follow and apply the Countryside Code

This educational approach strengthens appreciation for Wales’ unique environments and highlights the importance of caring for them.

Group Sizes & Impact

For most guided walks and skills courses, we limit standard group sizes to 12 or fewer to reduce environmental impact and maximise safety, connection and enjoyment.

However, we also regularly deliver charity challenge events, corporate groups and larger team experiences. When working with bigger groups, we plan routes, staffing and logistics responsibly to:

  • Protect the landscape
  • Reduce congestion
  • Maintain high-quality support
  • Promote a positive, low-impact presence

In every case, we encourage responsible behaviour, respect for the land and a commitment to leaving places better than we found them.

In Summary

At ROC Adventure, our mission is to create unforgettable outdoor experiences that honour the landscape, support local communities and inspire a deeper connection to nature for individuals, small groups, charities and large organisations alike.
