Wild Camping & Expedition Skills

Sleep under the stars | Learn new skills | Explore with confidence.

At ROC Adventure, our Wild Camping Experiences and Expedition Skills Courses offer a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the outdoors, learn essential campcraft, and experience the freedom of remote overnight travel. Whether you’re new to wild camping or looking to grow your confidence in the hills, our guided experiences are designed to be safe, supportive and unforgettable.

Locations include Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons), Eryri (Snowdonia), Cambrian Mountains and remote sections of the Welsh Coast and uplands, depending on permission and terrain.

What is Wild Camping?

Wild camping means spending the night in remote, natural landscapes, away from designated campsites and facilities. It’s an opportunity to slow down, disconnect from routine, and develop true outdoor independence.

ROC Adventure Wales operates with permission from local landowners, granting legal access to exceptional wild camping locations across Wales — including areas that are normally off-limits to the public. This allows us to offer high-quality, low-impact overnight experiences in remote environments.

What Our Wild Camping Experiences Include

Our guided wild camping and expedition skills sessions typically include:

  • A guided walk into upland or wilderness terrain
  • Campcraft instruction: pitching tents/tarps, choosing a campsite, weather awareness & food/water management
  • Navigation and route planning support
  • Environmental awareness & responsible access guidance
  • A night sleeping under the stars in a remote, scenic setting
  • Experienced leaders providing advice, safety oversight & encouragement

Every experience is shaped around the group and the environment — with a focus on building skills, resilience and connection to nature.

Responsible Wild Camping

  • Respect for wildlife, vegetation and water sources
  • Waste carried out — nothing left behind
  • Permission-based access and landowner respect
  • Minimising environmental footprint & visual impact

Our approach matches the values of sustainable adventure and responsible tourism in Wales.
